What, How & Why of Social Stories
A social story is a fantastic concept created by Carol Gray. They're especially great for children who may need a little extra help with certain situations and social skills, something that comes naturally to other kids.
These skills might include things like self-care (dressing, bathing, spitting), social skills (sharing, interrupting, asking for help), or situational skills (like dealing with changes in plans, going to the dentist, or travelling by plane).
Each social story is about a specific situation and how your child might feel when facing it. A social story will give them some choices or different ways to handle it!
It's super important to involve your child in coming up with these strategies so they feel prepared and confident when the time comes.
How to use my social stories?
Feel free to download these social stories for free and print them out.
The character in these stories is pretty simple, without any hair or accessories, so you can personalise it to look like your child by adding your own touch with a sharpie.

You could even make it a fun activity and colour the whole story together. A great way to spend some quality time with your child.
When to use these social stories?
Social stories work best when shared with your child before the situation arises. But, hey - even after something has already gone down, these stories can still help avoid future meltdowns.
It's definitely worth a shot - who knows, it might just do the trick!
Share with someone whose life might be positively impacted by these!
