When my friends want to play something else
A social story about how to manage feelings when their friends want to play something else
Max loves playing outside with his friends at the park. One day, Max wanted to play on the slide, but his friends were already playing football.
"Hey guys, can we play on the slide?" Max asked.
"Sorry Max, we're in the middle of a game. Maybe you can join us next time," his friends replied.
Max was disappointed because he really wanted to play on the slide. After a moment, he decided to watch his friends play for a while.
As he watched, Max realized that his friends were having a lot of fun playing football. He started to cheer them on and even offered to be the referee. His friends were happy to have him involved in the game.
Max learned that sometimes, it's important to take turns with friends. He also learned being a good sport can make everyone happy.
From then on, Max knew that even if his first choice of activity wasn't available, he could always find a way to have fun with his friends.
Because friends are precious!
Here is the same social story from the child’s perspective.

Now comes the fun part
You can personalise this story by giving the character a hairdo just like your child’s. Add some colour to the hair, and maybe even write your child's initials on the tee, and boom! Your very own social story is all set to go.
See the image below. Not too tricky, right?
